AHRB is an association that promotes human rights in Bolivia. Our vision is to ensure that this country has public policies that protect human rights and recognise human dignity, and where justice prevails over violence.
AHRB focuses on exposing and denouncing human rights violations in Bolivia. The objectives and principles of this association are based on the Declaration of Human Rights Defenders – Resolution A / RES / 53/144 of the United Nations General Assembly.
The Declaration sets out some specific duties of the States and the responsibility of all with respect to the defense of human rights, in addition to explaining their relationship with national law. For example, in article 2.b of this declaration it states that the States have the responsibility to apply and respect all the provisions of the Declaration. Special reference is also made to the role of States and it is indicated that each of them has the responsibility and duty to:
- Protect, promote and give effect to all human rights
- Guarantee that every person subject to its jurisdiction can enjoy in practice all the rights and social, economic, political and other freedoms.
- Adopt the legislative, administrative and other measures that are necessary to ensure the effective application of rights and freedoms.
- Provide effective remedies to people who report having been victims of a human rights violation.
- Conduct a prompt and impartial investigation into the alleged human rights violations
- Take all necessary measures to guarantee the protection of all persons against all violence, threats, retaliation, negative discrimination, pressure or any other arbitrary action resulting from the legitimate exercise of the rights mentioned in the Declaration.
- Promote public understanding of civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights.
- Guarantee and support the creation and development of independent national institutions charged with promoting and protecting human rights; for example, mediators or human rights commissions.
- Promote and facilitate the teaching of human rights at all levels of education and official vocational training.
AHRB was founded by people of Bolivian, Latin American and Australian origin with the aim of working in Australia in the defence of human rights in the Plurinational state of Bolivia
